2,000 maps donated to the public
The first Map Giveaway of the semester was a great success with 2,000 maps donated to the public! Keep your eyes open for announcements about our next Giveaway in November!
Map Giveaway Event Sept 20-21st
The Map Library will have another of its popular Map Giveaways on September 20-21st from 10 am-5 pm. This is when we give away old, duplicate maps for FREE! Please come by and pick up a map (or twenty!) of your favorite parks, the coolest cities and your great grandma’s piece of land in Minnesota. **Please note that no maps of Alabama and bordering states are given away**

Passionate about maps? The Map Library is looking for a work-study student to help out with the collection during the Fall. Apply by emailing jengstrom@ua.edu.

Map Library successfully pass U.S. Government Publishing Office inspection
University of Alabama has been a federal depository since 1860, and the Map Library houses the map portion of these federal documents. As such, it has to be inspected every few years. According to government regulations, the maps must be stored in a controlled environment to limit map decay, be accessible to the public, and be stored in a wheelchair accessible environment. The Map Library’s current location on the 3rd floor of Farrah Hall meets all of these requirements.
